Wow, I did not think of that. You actually have a very good point here -- ebooks, disregarding the whole feeling aspect, are pretty superior to physical copies. But I guess it’s the feel of reading that really gets me. So for that, I’m going to have to say I prefer physical books than electronic ones.

There! Easy. You wrote a comment that’ll show you actually paid attention to the post (as opposed to a generic ‘hey, this was great! please like and follow my blog to k thx’), and subtly shows you have a blog as well that they can check out. Subtly linking is the key here. You don’t want to offend them by going ‘now will you please check out my site too yay thanks’, which doesn’t really give a good feeling to the blog owner.
Word of warning: if a post doesn’t interest you, do not comment on it just for the sake of getting a comment back. Please. I would much rather not get a comment than get a false one motivated by self-gain. If a post truly interests you, then by all means, comment. But if it doesn’t, then just move on. You should also expect people to do the same to your blog.
Commenting back is a big process in widening your reach within the blogosphere and forming friendships. By leaving meaningful comments that stand out, you’re putting yourself on the radar where more and more people check out your site because they like you and what you say. It’s a big step - don’t skimp on it (like I did)!
